Hello!

Well, ladies--- I can't believe that it's been this long. I remember being at work one day and hunting around Babycenter.com and seeing the boards. Some of the women there were nuts! Who knew that I'd end up in a group with the nuttiest of them all!

I'm just kidding...

I remember being very impressed with Annette and how sensible she was. We had been hoping that Babycenter would appoint a mediator for our due date board. I wrote them a very passionate (substitute hormonal and it means the same) e-mail telling them that this "pixleyyy" woman was it. Mommy brain has kicked in and I don't remember if she was appointed as the group leader or not...

Anyways, I told Annette that I went to bat for her and shortly thereafter she came to me with the invitation to join what I've always called my "mommy group" (hafta add the visual of me clicking my fingers in middair like I'm typing on the computer). What a great place, how intimate and warm!

I've been so impressed with each and every one of you, I can't even put it into words.

You've made me feel safe, loved, capable. Even when I was sure I was going nuts (whether during pregnancy, after, or with challenges in my personal life), you all came to my rescue by either chiming in that the world was indeed against me or by telling me that "everything is temporary."

I feel important in the loving embrace of your e-mails.

When our kids were all around 6 months old, our family undertook a HUGE task. We made a VERY long trip from Stockbridge, GA to Lewiston, ME...then to Pittsburgh, PA and back to GA again. One of the great things about that trip was getting to meet Maggie for the first time! She came down from Alexandria with Jillian - she had to deal with traffic to come down to Quantico and meet us, but she did it! It was awesome meeting her for the first time and we got lots of pictures to comemorate the event. Little did either of us know that a year later, we would both be in Virginia Beach, together. I sure do wish I still lived there (though not in that tiny apartment, lol)

Of course, now that I've written this post, I can't find the pictures anywhere! I know they're at Yahoo, but I can't link them, so I'll save them and post them later!

Friendship

I can fully credit this group for my friendship with Becky. I remember joining the group and thinking "gee, I'd like someone from Oregon on this list." So I posted to BabyTalk and Becky answered and joined our group. We chatted as a group and chatted privately. She seemed like a nice person, but you just never know ...

Several months later Becky and I met for the first time at my baby shower and she was just as nice in person. In fact, I even remember being awed because she could hold her own with my group of friends, who I'd known since I was 6. I'll have to find the photo we took then and scan it in sometime because it's pretty funny. She and I were both hugely pregnant and stood tummy to tummy for a photo.

After the shower it was cautious meetings at the mall with our kids and families, including a trip to see the Easter bunny where these photos were taken. (She's so gonna kill me for posting us in our fat stage.)

The husbands met and hit it off and before you know it we were hanging out at their house or they were hanging out at ours. And now, nearly 6 years later, we're still great friends. We even took some time recently to get away for a girls weekend - scrapping, hot tubs and margaritas. Gotta love it!

So thank you Mommy's group for your part in our friendship.
